A reefer preserves temperature; it is not designed to freeze warm product
In many operations, the product must enter the container at its target temperature. The reefer unit maintains the temperature of correctly prepared cargo through controlled airflow; rapidly cooling warm product may require a separate process.
Do not block the air channels
The T-floor and upper air space allow cold air to circulate throughout the container. Pallets extending beyond load lines or incorrect stacking can create hot spots and affect product quality.
Setpoint and monitoring
Temperature should be set according to the product specification; ventilation and humidity parameters must also be considered for fresh produce. Data loggers provide a temperature history throughout shipment.
Power and operations plan
Continuous power must be planned during site waiting, at the vessel terminal and throughout road transport. Plug type, generator requirements, alarm management and emergency contacts should be recorded in the shipment plan.
