The direction of access determines the choice
An Open Side container opens along its long side, providing forklift access and horizontal loading. An Open Top opens through the roof for overhead crane loading. The key difference is the direction from which the cargo enters the equipment.
Open Side use cases
Pipes, profiles, sheets, palletised goods, mobile retail and event projects benefit from the wide side opening. Remember that open side doors extend beyond the unit's footprint; the site plan must provide a working aisle.
Open Top use cases
Open Top is the better choice for tall machinery, moulds and equipment that cannot pass through the doors. Crane capacity, sling points, cargo centre and the roof-closing system form part of the operating plan.
Technical control in custom manufacturing
Door and roof openings affect shell rigidity. Frame reinforcement, locking systems, weather tightness and corrosion protection should therefore be assessed as one engineering package.
